End of support for Internet Explorer

HubSpot is ending its support for Internet Explorer. What does it mean for the users and what you should do next? Find out here.

HubSpot has finally decided to end the support for Internet Explorer starting on August 17, so should we!
(Read the official announcement here)

What does this mean for the users?
Is there anything you have to do?

First of all, let's start with some stats around Internet Explorer. Over the last ten years, the browser's market share has fallen from 40% to 0.62%. Meaning for every 100 visitors your site receives, less than 1 uses Internet Explorer.

In the world of web development, most developers, including agencies, platforms, CMS, plugins, and many others, support browsers with at least 1% of the global market share. From the market share alone, it's understandable why HubSpot is stopping its support.

So what can we expect in terms of changes?

Well, first off, if a user visits your website using IE 11 or below, they'll experience significant layout issues all over the place. Today's standard CSS features such as display flex and grid which the new HubSpot CMS depends on are not supported, making designs also extremely limited in Internet Explorer.

Is there anything you have to do?

Nothing. Since Microsoft themselves are stopping their support for the browsers, more Internet Explorer users are expected to migrate to another browser, probably Microsoft Edge.

But suppose your company works in the industries with Internet Explorer gaining over 1% of market share. In that case, the best thing we can do is adding a warning such as "Internet Explorer is not supported, please open in another browser."

If you don't know how to add such a warning prompt, please reach out to us at support@giantfocal.com.
